Hi
Can someone please help me. Its probably an old problem
but i am running internet explorer 6 on Windows XP and
have recently installed a load of fixes to both windows
and ie6 from windows update.
This has somehow affected my machine and i cannot access
certain webpages. The two that i have noticed most are
when i try to log into hotmail and ebay, i get a page
saying "this page cannot be displayed).
I have searched the microsoft site for help but it seems
that it is something caused by the service pack to IE6 -
is this true? and what can i do to get everything back
working again.
Hope you can help.
Thanks

Netscape wouldn't work for me when I had the same problem.
Microsoft doesn't seem to have a fix. I had to go to the
Opera browser, which works fine.

Try Netscape Navigator!
.

In my cases the problem is related to TCPIP on port 80
which is where webpages usually communicate through. This
problem has presented itself in navigator as well. Making
the problem even more definate is that other websites like
secure sites using ports like 2200 and 3052 work fine on
the same system in either broowser.

I too have a similar problem
I have not updated or reinstalled yet
I do not want to yet either
We are running XP Pro, IE6 V6 SP1,
Our issue is using AOL ISP and IE6 we cannot get to
www.nwsc.k12.in.us which is 157.97.111.110
If we use AOL browser it will work
If we use NetZero ISP and IE6 we CAN get to
www.nwsc.k12.in.us which is 157.97.111.110
We have done all the basic, deleting cache, reset
defaults, etc on both AOL & IE6
We cannot ping the site using AOL, we can using NetZero
We ran a tracert logged in AOL and the 2nd hop shows
proxy.aol.com
It appears to be a DNS or Proxy issue

Any Help would be greatfull

My neighbour had the same problem and after trying
everything and searching the internet for hours i found
in the Kb of MS the following article: 813442

The next sentences are from the article
.......

"When you try to install Microsoft Windows XP Service
Pack 1 (SP1) or later, you may receive the following
error message:

Service Pack 1 Setup could not verify the integrity of
the file Update.inf. Make sure the Cryptographic service
is running on this computer"

........

"You may not be able to sign in to Windows Messenger or
MSN Explorer or MSN Explorer may time out when you
retrieve your e-mail messages"

"You cannot connect to secure Web sites. When you try do
so, you receive the following error message in your
browser window:

The page cannot be displayed"

.............

CAUSE
These issues may indicate that a component of Windows XP
that processes digital signatures is damaged.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, re-register the Softpub.dll,
Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll, Dssenh.dll, Rsaenh.dll,
Gpkcsp.dll, Sccbase.dll, Slbcsp.dll, Mssip32.dll, and
Cryptdlg.dll files. To do so, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type regsvr32 softpub.dll, and
then press ENTER.
Click OK when you receive the message that
DllRegisterServer in Softpub.dll succeeded.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the following files:
Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll, Dssenh.dll, Rsaenh.dll,
Gpkcsp.dll, Sccbase.dll, Slbcsp.dll, Mssip32.dll, and
Cryptdlg.dll.
Type exit, and then press ENTER to quit Command Prompt.
------------

There is also a Dutch version of the article and the
interesting part is that in the Dutch version of the
article only softpub.dll is mentioned. Re-regsiter only
softpub.dll worked on my neigbours laptop.

Kind regard

Bert
