This Newsgroup showing two Unread Messages

G

GSD

Over the last day or so this Newsgroup is showing me I have 2 unread
messages but there is nothing there to read . I have tried Catch Up and
resubscribing but the Message Count keeps coming back as two .
I can still download and read other messages but still left with it showing
2 unread .
Could this be a Server problem ?Does anyone else see this or is it something
at my end .
I am using Outlook Express on Windows XP SP3

A "mark all" button is perhaps missing from your OE Toolbar ?

You may turn of your NOD32 signatures this way, if you wish.

I don't know, but my WLM inbox emails always show "1" in my inbox mail when
there is none. This has been going on for months. I just ignore it.

Sign in here https://support.live.com/ perhaps this will be of assistance to you.
Leftover message on news servers can be an annoyance, I have seen this before.
In a lot of instances the issue goes away eventually.

Or here (note that MS Social Answers Forums are for Vista and Windows 7)

Good luck.

Thanks, but no that is not the problem it, I have the button on my toolbar
and always
mark all messages read when I exit a newsgroup .
By the way in reference to your second message I have tried Windows Live
Mail recently but after about a month went back to OE which is so much
faster and easier to read .

As to the Nod32 message I normally do not have it turned on but had
overllooked turning it off when fiddling with the settings recently . In
fact my preferecnce would be to turn off Email Checking altogether but that
is a bit messy in Nod 32.

It looks like I might have to ignore mine too I have tried all I can think
of to get rid of the incorrect message count

I am on oe and it is showing all the messages
it could be a glitch in your Outlook Express

Yes probably a glitch . I am sure I am getting and seeing all the messages
OK, just that the counter is stuck on 2 .
Not a big problem really I will just have to see if it rights itself I guess

BTW, this happens more often than one would think.

This issue will not be resolved by anything you can do. You might view it
as a server side issue, because it will go away on its own at some
point--but in fact, it is more accurately a client issue--some new clients
will not show those two unread messages. They are the ones whose developers
read the NNTP spec in the same way as the server folks did...

Thanks Bill . I have in fact decided to ignore it and see if it goes away .
It is not doing any harm just annoying .

Strange thing - I find that on another user account I have on my computer it
is not there - same Outlook Express ??

That's interesting--I'm not sure I've ever seen that--Often people all over
the world will see the same number of these "ghosts."

There's also a theory that it only happens with Microsoft's newsservers, but
I have also seen it on Verizon's (before the shut them down.)
