This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing

I did an automatic update on my windows xp home edition
machine to upgrade a service pack. Now, when I boot up,
it goes into a blue screen and says, "This application has
failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-
installing the application may fix this problem." I've
tried going through safe mode, last known good config,
etc...and keep ending up in the blue screen. According to
article #328930 it says I need a couple of missing dll's
that are needed for winlogon.exe...but what is my best
step to get past the blue screen, etc...?

Put your XP CD in the drive and then reboot. Let it boot from the CD. Once it
loads all the drivers and stuff and you end up on your desktop just leave the
CD in the drive and go start\run and type in sfc /scannow This will
perform a System File Check and replace any missing or corrupt dll's and
system files with the originals found on the CD. You can also do the sfc
/scannow in the run line in safe mode. Be sure to put a space after sfc and
before the / . Post back if you need more help. {]:~)
