Thinkpad R51 (ATI Mobility 9000) - Should Aero work?

No, not listed as supported, no drivers available on ATI's website.

I guess I should've been clearer...what I wanna find out is, is this a
driver issue, or is that chipset simply incapable (eg, don't expect drivers
to ever be written to "fix" this)?

Its combination of driver issue, and the amount of vRAM, it has to support
a minimum of 64-MBs vRAM and be Direct X 9 capable with support
technologies such as Pixel Shader 2.0 which are a part of the Windows
Display Driver Mode (WDDM).

Andre, why don't you just cut to the chase and tell me to do my own damned
research next time instead of trying to get a quick Yes or No answer? :)

To be frank, I just got ahold of this laptop for a few weeks and decided it
would be a good candidate to tinker with Vista instead of risking a
dual-boot setup with my primary box. All I know is that it's got a 1.6GHz
Centrino CPU, half a gig of RAM and a surprisingly small (30GB) hard drive.
Vista identified the video chipset as an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000--with Aero
disabled. I didn't even bother checking what the previous OS (XP Pro OEM)
had installed as far as video drivers go before blowing it away and
replacing it with Vista. I guess I'll have to look at IBM's site to find
out exactly what's in this machine and what it's capable of...

Then again, until I'm ready to put Vista on a more capable machine, I'm
wondering how much I'm really missing, considering I'm a hardcore Windows
Classic theme user (no Fisher Price XP setup here, thank you very much)...
:)
