thermal printers vs snapfish

Right now I'm getting copies of my digital photos from snapfish at
about 25 cents a print for my scrapbooks.
I'd heard that the ink on ink jet printers doesn't last as long as
regular photodeveloping type printers which is why (and my epson is
not the deal I thought it would be and I'm rather disappointed).
My question is, what is the cost per print (3.5 or 4") on the new
thermal printers (about $200 variety). What kind of ink or other other
parts need to be replaced with use?
Any siggestions would be appreciated too.
Thanks,
Lisa

I think, without the use of Atlantic bulk inks, and finding a decent quality
photo paper that works with your printer, it will not be cheaper than
'snapfish'. But what you get from your printer is convenience, flexibility
and instant results. If you've got lots to print, I'd got to 'snapfish',
where as an occasional print or few, I'll pay the extra to print at home.

I'd say the only way to get comparable results to photo print, is to keep
the prints in an album.

Those thermals are pretty expensive to run I think
