the word document has a left side column i need to delete.

i created a word document but there is a large column on the left next to
the document and i do not know how to delete the column, thereby expanding my
document as the only item on the page.

Take a look in the View Menu... if Document Map or Thumbnails is active,
select it to turn it off. It is also possible that you are in Reading Layout
View, in which case you can select Print Layout or Normal from the same menu.
