"the text formatting command is not available"

When I first open outlook 2007 and go to view emails I get an error "Could
not open the item, the text formatting command is not available" . If I then
go to tools, options, mail format and then click editor options then every
single time the program crashes and reopens and all is well. Strange and
aggrivating. Any ideas?
