is a pretty straight forward command.

I meant everything, mounting it etc and the drive id etc.
Granted, it is not intuitively obvious if you have
no familiarity with any form or flavor of unix.

Its not that command so much as what
else is needed after booting a linux off CD.
But there are more and more people who DO
have at least a modicum of experience with unix.
If you are completely unfamiliar with unix, and have
absolutely no desire to gain any such knowledge,
then it might, repeat MIGHT be worth the cost to
use Windows instead of Linux.

I wasnt talking about using Win at all, JUST a decent
bootable CD that could be used to do basic stuff like that.

The Ultimate Boot CD 2.1 does have a rather crude DOS
file manager that has a decent user interface that works,
its just painfully slow deleting the Temporary Internet Files
tree, and failed to delete some of the folder trees in Program
Files. Not too clear what it didnt like, something a bit unusual
in some of the Kodak software, wouldnt delete them at all.

The Ultimate Boot CD 3.4 just has linux file managers with a
decent user interface and none of those would even start at all.

One of the linuxs would boot, but you then
have the problem of mounting the drive etc.

Knoppix wouldnt even boot.

I just wanted to delete everything except a couple of
directorys which had older games that didnt need to
be installed, to do a clean install of Win on that system.
But contrary to what you stated in another post, Windows is NOT free.

It is if you choose to use a pirate copy.

Huhhh??? Windows is free???

For anyone with a clue it is.
Have you run this opinion by Bill Gates?? Or the lawyers where
you work? I think they would strongly disagree with you.

I couldnt care less if they do or not.
I can build a file server with used parts and a new 250 gig hard
drive for about what it will cost to buy one legal license for XP
Pro. Windows 2003 Server will cost quite a bit more than that.

Not if you use a pirate copy.

Not if you use a pirate copy.

Just to be clear:

Are you advocating pirating Microsoft licensed software?

Do you do this yourself?

I think it was clear to most folks that is the current version of
Solaris, not Windows, that is free to download for personal usage
(with a broadband connection, of course.)

Pirate copy = hard to get updates and patches. They made it hard for
users with illegal copy of XP to get updates and patches. I wouldn't
be surprised if the next version Vista (aka Longhorn) requires users
to send CD key each time they use update and for those that have
unreasonably high useage or used known stolen serial numbers, M$ could
track the users through ISP and make them pay the full retail price
plus face civil and criminal penalties.

I mean if RIAA can sue users that shares music over P2P, why not M$?

Use illegal copies at your own risk.

You are correct my claim was wrong.

You are babblemouth, that's what you do.
Should not do math in my head late in the evening.

Actually, if you know how to place the order, you can get 10 seats of XP,
several copies of Server 2K3, a copy of Media Center Edition 2K5, 10 seats
of Office 2K3, and a bunch of other stuff for 300 bucks, direct from
Microsoft, with regular shipments of additional stuff for a year. Not
exactly free, but the price is not bad.

Just saying that plenty obviously do that.

And some dont consider its pirating if you already have
paid for a copy and choose to have a separate file
server instead of having that PC act as a file server.
Do you do this yourself?

None of your business.

Have you stopped beating your wife ?

Pirate copy = hard to get updates and patches.

Bullshit, completely trivial in fact.

And you dont necessarily need then with a file server anyway.

And many dont bother with updates and
patches and just use service packs too.

And if you have a clue you just pirate
the slipsteamed version anyway.
They made it hard for users with illegal
copy of XP to get updates and patches.

Bullshit they did, it completely trivial to do.

The ISP is free to tell them MS to go and **** themselves.

Completely trivial to avoid too, just dont update or patch.

Use illegal copies at your own risk.

That is true of all software, including the free stuff.

They just included XP 64-bit as well.

SQL Server 2005 due shortly.

Only £199 for the above pack in the UK.

Already answered that question. Do TRY to keep up.

You did not, so I'll try again:

Your resorting to ad hom debate indicates you're losing.
