The second 200GB drive is no longer seen by win2000

It all started with me being an idiot. I had a look at eMule which is a p2p
program for sharing. As my firewall was obstructing the access, I brought it
down and trusted that my router would look out for me.

When finished, I needed to make a new folder in explorer and found to my horror
that instead of obeying that, it tried to install drive image 7.0 or something
similar. I tried nearly everything to bring my computer to its senses
- all to no avail. Well I had C: backed up so no worries - I formatted C: drive
and installed 2000 pro, no trouble. Then came the restore which was on Drive F:
this is where the trouble started: F: had become a CD reader/writer instead of
the first half of the second drive which is also a 200GB drive. So I had a look
at the Admin Tools where I picked out the Disk Manager or whatever it is called.
The disk did show up with a nasty red spot adorned with a white cross and it
said that the disk was dynamic and unreadable.
Used Westen Digital, the manufacturers floppie and rebooted to that. It informed
me that both drive 0 and drive 1 were OK - in other words it should have worked.

Now my backups are on F and G drives and so are lot of video and photos - I
would be very pleased to recover the data - but how PLEASE.

For your information, my stats are:
Win 2000, Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz
1 Gb memory,ADSL
200+200 GB disks partitioned C:D:E;as 7.81, 80.84. 97.65
F: G: as 88.65, 97.66 for data

Have you re-enabled Large Block Addressing?

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;305098&Product=win2000

Unless you are using SCSI drives, DO NOT do anything more until you apply
the registry key in the referenced article and reboot. You WILL trash your
data.
Yes I enabled the LBA and rebooted. I still had to revert the disk to
basic and from there I was given the chance to import a foreign setup.
After a good deal of head scratching and no solution from my best
friend, I accepted that and there was all my data. However in Disk
Management the drive now appears as Dynamic whereas the drive(0) is
Basic. A program I am now testing as a backup system does ignore
drive(1) totally.

I should therefore like to bring it back to basic so it is seen and
can be used from time to time for backups. Is there any way to go from
dynamic to basic and retain the data. Please
