The presenter view control panel doesn't show up

PowerPoint 2003 SP2 with updat to date patches
Win XP home OS
The laptop support true dual monitor
Dell Inspiron 600m laptop
DirectX 9.0c

Once I select 'presenter view', the slide will show up on the second
monitor, but the control panel won't show up on the laptop (a window pops up
and closes right after). But it works fine on my dual monitor PC. What's the
possible problem? thanks for any comments

BTW, I tried to reinstall and fix the PowerPoint, but it didn't help. I tried
to search on the web and in this newsgroup but found nothing useful. Need
help...
