The page to order an SP2 update CD is borked...

Guest

This is pretty sad. I am of course talking about the page at

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/updates/sp2/cdorder/en_us/default.mspx

where you can order a CD of the SP2 update to avoid the big download.

Anyway, this site is telling me that my address is incorrect. The address
that I've used for 7 years. The address that the United States Post Office
says is my "official" address. The address that Federal Express and UPS all
verify as "existing" and being "correctly formatted". The address that I
receive 4-5 packages per week at. The address I receive all my utility bills,
all my personal mail, and even the address to which I receive loads of
old-fashioned junk mail.

But Microsoft says my address isn't correct, and that, in fact, I don't even
know what zip code my city is. Hmph.

So I tried my mother's address, three cities away. Hmm... Microsoft says
that address is wrong, too... and she's been there 18 years. How about my
father's address, four states away? Well, hell, I don't seem to know my dad's
address either.

If there are any MS people reading this, please fix this page, or update its
address checking abilities or something, because I've entered four perfectly
valid addresses into and every time it tells me to enter a valid City, State
and Zip code combination like I'm some dumbass who doesn't know how to
address an envelope.

It sounds like they don't route their site's address verification system
through the USPS' system.

Have you tried not filling in the Zip. It is NOT a required field.

Hopefully you are not putting in the number of your address only in the
required address field and putting in the name of the street only in the
address 2 field. That would give you this issue. You need to put in the
number and the street name in the same required address bar.

Please reply to Newsgroup for the benefit of others.

It doesn't matter WHAT order you enter your street address. The fact is, as
the OP tells us, and my experience tells me, this ordering script is totally
off-the-wall. For some reason, it erroneously reports your address in
general as being inadequately entered.

It also doesn't matter whether you enter a Zip code or not. The same error
still comes up whether or not a correct Zip code is entered, either 5
numbers, or 9 numbers. Doesn't matter.

This script on the site is totally screwed up.

That should keep the shareholders happy about not giving out so many

Aaron,

If you could drop me an email, I'll see if I can't try to help out with this
issue. Since every mailing address I've tried comes up as valid, I need to
come up with a valid mailing address that isn't valid by the page to test
with.

The same thing happens to me when I fill out the form. I get the message
"Please enter a valid city, state or province, and zip or postal code
combination in your address."
Doesn't matter what address I use.
I had the same problem with Dell a few weeks ago when I needed to fill out
their form to get a replacement for the laptop power supply. I called them
about it and they had it fixed in 5 minutes.

I have tried my address, and get the error every time. Here it is.

I just tried to order and was rejected the first time because I did not
capitalize the first letter in the city I am from (Portland) After I
corrected this it sailed right through fine. Apparently case sensitive.
