The Network Name Cannot Be Found And Drive Mapping Problem

Dear All,
We are using MS Windows2000 as Server and XP for clients.
At the beginning of setup everythings is going fine but
todays we have problems as follows :
1. When we try to connect a PC to the network we got error
message "The Network Name Cannot Be Found". This message
appears after we enter the correct domain name, entering
the login admin name and password.
2. We can see all the clients PC name when we open the
menu of "Map Network Drive" from the SERVER but we cannot
see the same from Clients (we see no PC name in the
network).

Could you please let us know what is happening to our
networks and how to solve it?

Thanks in advance to your responds.

Best regards,
Ismed

Sounds like the DCs SRV are either not present or cannot be read (because
you're pointing elsewhere).

Verify that *all* machines are pointing to the *internal* DNS server (this
includes the DNS server itself).

Also, on the DNS server (I assume it's also the DC), ensure the DHCP client
service is set to automatically start and is running (even though the server
isn't a DHCP client) and restart the netlogon service.

2. We can see all the clients PC name when we open the menu of "Map
Network Drive" from the SERVER but we cannot see the same from Clients (we
see no PC name in the network).

I assume these are DHCP clients? If so, check that you are not disabling
NetBIOS over TCP/IP (NetBT).

If they're not DHCP clients, check to make sure this setting (under WINS in
TCP/IP properties) is enabled.

There isn't a whole lot of info here but it kind of sounds like you have
wins defined but no dns defined for your clients. Check your congif on your
clients and see if they point to a legitimate dns server.
