The messaging interface has returned an enknown error. if . . .

I can't delete messages or move them to folders. I get "The messaging
interface has returned an enknown error." So I ran the scanpst.exe, but it
didn't help. Also, my sending got slower, and has now stalled alrogether -
on an item that the recipient has now received over 200 times! My
downloading of new messages hangs on the final message, but NONE of the
messages appear in my Inbox. I sometimes get a message that my Outlook.pst
file is at max size (it's 2 Gigs) , but I can't delete or archive anything!
Any ideas?

what version of outlook? Do you restart outlook or reboot after you get this
error? Can you Shift+Del to delete messages?
