the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available

Whenever I browse the computers on my domain i get the
list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available. It is a TCP/IP network and this is the primary
domain which is a windows 2000 server.
I can do a netview \\servername and get results and can
ping it both by IP and name.
Please could you point me in the right direction.
when I go to entire network I can only see microsoft
windows network and directory. Should I not be seeing
active directory?
