The letter "y" converts to ] in text boxes

For some reason when I type the letter "y" into an Excel text box or chart,
it comes out as a ] symbol. Capital Y works fine. I've checked auto-correct
and that doesn't seem to be the problem. There's no problem when I type "y"
in a spreadsheet cell. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hi,

There are a number of probems with Text boxes that have been created in
earlier versions of Excel being used in later versions. However, the change
you mention I am not aware of. When you say a text box what do you mean - a
text box drawing toolbar, the Control Toolbox's Text Box, the Forms Toolbar's
Text Box or a userform Text box?

If the first, I would delete the text box and create a new one and see if
the problem persists.

I first noticed it when I tried to type the title "Frequency" in a bar chart.
It came out as "Frequenc]". I tested it in another chart and the same thing
happened. I then tried to type a "y" in a regular spreadsheet cell and it
was fine. Then I tried inserting a text box into the spreadsheet and again
the "y" came out as "]". I even tried closing Excel and opening a brand new
spreadsheet and the same thing happened.
