The Internet Looks Smaller.

resolution, ie7

ok, so i just switched to vista last night and have been having some problems
with the resolution of some of the sites i frequent. every site looks like
everything has been pushed together from all sides. i tried decreasing the
resolution at the desktop but all that did was zoom in, offsetting the entire
page making it so i have to scroll left and right to view everything. i aslo
tried increasing the text size which didnt do mouch to make things look less
condensed.

right now, im at 1280x1024, the same as i had it on xp, and is the same on a
different computer. there are both zoomed in to 100% on ie7 just to let you
know. these following pictures were screencapped from my computer (with
vista) and the other computer (with xp):

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b56/TheNewestBooM/twg1.jpg - vista
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b56/TheNewestBooM/twg.jpg - xp

as you can see from the picrtures, everything is about 1 inch smaller on
vista. im not sure what to do; is vista automatically condensing pictures or
somthing?

thanks to anyone who replies.

On you Vista machine...how do you have your colors set.

try for true color or high color if it is not set that way
_________

i see medium (16 bit) and highest (32 bit) on the display settings. it is
set to highest.

If IE7 is the only place you are having differences, you could check/compare
the settings you have on both. Otherwise, it could be a video card driver
if other screens have differences also.

You appear to have different video resolutions set for the two operating
systems. In each of them, right-click on a blank area of the desktop, hit
"Personalize" or "Properties", and dig down to find the resoution.

Incidentally, if it is just IE you would be better off posting on the
internet explorer group.

@ John Barnes - i just updated my video card drivers today, still the same
look.
@ Michael Covington - ive already tried to increase/decrease my resolution;
it zooms in on everything, but makes it so i have to scroll left and right to
view everything, somthing that i didnt need to do in xp
@ Barnes & Panais - i installed firefox just now and its the same thing.
everything is still squished together. i tried the cntrl & +/- but that just
increases the text size.

What are the actual resolution numbers? Look for a *small* difference
between the two, and set Vista to be like XP.

the resolution on both xp and vista are 1280x1024. in order to get vista to
become the same size as xp, i have to decrease the res a few notches (or zoom
into the page 10-20%). the thing is, i didnt need to do this before and it
makes some things look bad. it also requires me to scroll left and right to
see the entire webpage, again, somthing i didnt need to do before.

Is your monitor a CRT or an LCD?

Is the refresh rate the same?

Is it just web pages or is everything on the screen expanding? Are the
edges of the screen display going off the edges of the physical screen, or
falling short of the edges of the physical screen, under one of the OSes?

Refresh rate?

its at 75 hertz. the next step up (85) doesnt make a difference and the step
lower makes things even smaller.

nevermind guys. thanks for the help, but ill just deal with it. its just an
inch off, so i should be ok. its not the end of the world or anything.
