The installation was not successful

Hi,

I can't install Windows Vista on my computer. I have tried RC1, RC2 and the
build in between. Same error all three times.
Since the installation program can't load the drivers to my hard drive
controller (see below) when I boot from the DVD without getting a BSOD, I'm
forced to install from Windows XP. Everything seems fine until the
"Completing installation..." step. After a couple of minutes the computer
restarts, and my only boot options is Windows XP or the Vista rollback. After
a while Windows XP is started and I'm greeted with a dialog saying "This
version of Windows could not be installed. [---]". The Vista Upgrade Adviser
have another opinion in the matter., and says that my computer can run Vista.
What should I do? This problem will likely be present in the RTM version as
well, since nothing has been done in the later builds regarding this problem.

My computer:
P4 3.0 GHz, HT enabled
1 GB dual channel RAM (OCZ)
ATI X1600 512MB AGP
Motherboard: Asus P4C800-E Deluxe
Harddrives: 2 harddrives in a RAID 0-array on the ICH5R-chip on the
motherboard. Divided into three partitions, C: (25GB, for XP), D: (about
270GB, other data) and I: (10GB, new empty partition, this is where I'm
trying to install Vista).
I also have a Seagate disc on the Promise SATA controller as E:. For some
reason I can't install Vista on that one, can't remember what the reason is.
It's really a disc for data and backup.
Soundblaster Audigy
Two optical drives, DVD and DVD+/-R
Asus TV/FM card. Removed this and tried to install again, same result.

Is there any way I can get hold of a log file to see what's going wrong, or
do any of you any idea? This is fairly standard hardware, granted a couple of
years old, and shouldn't cause any problems.

Thanks

Anders

Hi Anders,
When I ran the vista upgrade advisor on my computer it said it needed 15GB
of disk space available for Vista.

Hi Paul

I'll expand the I-partition and try again. I'll report back here with the
result.

I have now tried to install Vista on a 20GB partition, with the same result.
Anybody have any other suggestion? Is vista simply not compatible with my
computer, and if so, which part?
