The dreaded wargame-gw4live.exe crash is annoying me

I just got my copy of gears of war yesterday and installed it and tried to
play it , i did soe reading about the game before hand and saw the problems
windows live was giving . I did what i researched and let it run its updates
making sure to exit and restarting the game but to no avail, within 3 to 10
minutes i crash out with that error. Is there something im missing?

I think ive solved my problem , basically i used msconfig to remove my non MS
services and aplications from startup and ran the game, it seemed to work as
i actually completed the first chapter. I tried to figure out which
application or service was giving me the problem. I loaded all my startup
apps again and the game was still working, when i renabled my services i had
problems. I have since narrowed it down to either GEARSecurity,Ntune(nvidia
driver app) and Norton Ghost.I hope this helps anyone else.

Norton probably wins the prize. The Symantec (Norton) products seem to get
into everything, as does McAfee. You would probably need to determine what
it is GoW is doing (Internet connection?) and then program Norton (don't use
it, so can't tell you where) to allow the GoW functions required. Then
perhaps they'll co-exist. Remember, if Norton updates itself, you may face
the same issue again.

I use mcacfee, but access protections are off so i dont think its that.
Another thing i notice is that if GUI.exe is still running even after you
exit the game and you try to run it again it will crash outright.

I would make sure you specifically "allow" the program within the AV. The
problem is once Norton or McAfee write something to the Registry, it sticks
even if that process has been "turned off" by the user.

going to run with access protections on, and ghost btw isnt the culprit, all
i have left is nvidia's ntune software.

Good luck with it. I've had instances of people using both Norton and
McAfee who suddenly had their local area networks broken "for no reason."
Turned out to be they'd updated the programs as reminded to do so, and when
they did both reinstituted the blockage of the LAN - after many months of
running successfully.

Had another one with Norton where the desktop suddenly couldn't see another
of the other network machines, and couldn't be seen. The eye doc involved
in that one said to just uninstall the product. Nope, didn't work. Had to
visit the Symantec web site and get their own uninstaller/removal tool to
actually clean out the Registry. As soon as that was completed, upon reboot
of the PC the LAN was all happy again.

I really dislike those two products because they're invasive.

Well its not ntune so i think its the nvidia taskbar icon.In any event if
you're having this problem and your still having it after patching you can
try using msconfig to remove all startup apps and remove all non microsoft
services from startup reboot and see if you can play, i know i did i was able
to beat the campaign mode and have played a couple of versus games.
