Text selection cursor goes invisible

Hi. My text selection cursors used to work perfectly. Over the last few
days, now I beam text selection cursor is white, or so close to white in ALL
test windows (email, word notepad, etc) that I can only just make it out,
instead of it being black. This also happens with the other word cursors
that involve the I beam so simply changing the cursor in windows isnt going
to help.

What could be causing this? Its very frustrating to not be able to select
text.

The only thing i did since yesterday was install messenger 6.2 as it was a
required update. Security issue or somethign *Grumble*
