text jumps when around when typing

Using XP pro, OE, & IE7, new HP Pavillion notebook. When typing a Word
document or into an email message box, the text jumps up and down as I type,
the cursor suddenly skips to another line, and a small mysterious
rectangular dropdown box with an up arrow at top and a down arrow at the
bottom appears suddenly. HP support tells me to call Microsoft support who
tells me to call HP support! So, I am frustrated. Can someone a lot
smarter than me offer a fix for this problem? Thanks in advance, Fran

Run a "respected" anti-virus software and clean out any possible virus
"infestation."

Then, run 'Ad Aware SE", "Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.4", 'Spyware
Terminator" and Windows Defender. Check and remove any "possible"
spyware/hackware/malware/trojan "infestation."

NOTE: Spyware/hackware/malware and "several" trojans are not
classified as viruses.

Make sure you don't have voice commands turned on - use of the language bar
which sometimes get installed whether you want it or not.

Try muting your (builtin) microphone, or don't talk to yourself as you type
