Text Input Trouble on Internet Explorer 6

Eli

Hi. I have developed a problem with my IE6... When I am
on line and try writing in any text box, the flashing
cursor is either very slow to move or sometimes freezes
completely.

Usually I can write text, but it can be painfully slow as
the text cannot keep up with my typing speed (and I AM
NOT A FAST TYPER!)... sometimes the lag can take ages...
If I type one line, I might have to wait for 1-15 seconds
for it to appear in the box.

The same applies if I use the cursor "back key" to change
a character, etc... There is another long lag. Also, if I
try to change a character in the middle of a piece of
text by inserting a new one, instead of pushing the other
characters along to make space for it, it just starts
to "EAT" all the other characters.

Finally, I have also noticed that I can no longer scroll
smoothly... This has also become very jerky and subject
to lag too.

Does anyone know how to tackle this? I really need help.

eating letters is caused by the 'insert' key - hit it.
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/problems/performance.htm#slowforms
The jerky scroll is caused by the latest update, 824145 security fix, if you
have installed it.
Still waiting for a revised fix from MS.

Drag the scroll bar or click under the Down arrow for more control.

You can remove the fix, add/remove programs but will lose the security
aspect.

I will give both of these a try. Thank you very much for
your help.

Eli,
I agree with mac that hitting the [insert] key may fix part of this.

But here's more...

First, from IE> Tools> Internet Options> Accessibility, is User Style Sheet
checked? If you don't deliberately use a style sheet, note the name of the
sheet and uncheck it. You can find and delete the sheet if you wish.

CWShredder is a specialized tool which removes CoolWebSearch variants. The
existence of a style sheet would indicate DataNotary, a CWS variant. Slow
text entry and overall slow operation of IE might also point to Datanotary
or another CWS variant.
Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html for information
and to download CWShredder.

Next:
Download, install, *update* and run these two programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red- others
are optional.)

Eli,

I had exactly the same problem - frustrating isn't it? I downloaded
Mozilla Firebird as an alternative browser and there were no such
problems. It had to be Internet Explorer. I found their site unhelpful
but scanning through Google groups got me a clue.....
It turned out that my problem was caused by Spyware. (I did have
spybot installed) After downloading AD AWARE and deleting all the
nasty gremlins it found, all of my problems went away!!. Try it!!
