Text field in Excel

Hi

I'm trying to connect to an XLS file (using Access 2003) that contains two
text columns. One of them is 'normal' text (descriptions) but the second are
actually values but the whole column is formatted as text - text formatted,
left aligned values (e.g. 000, 100, 112, 122) and I want to keep it as text.
Unfortunatelly when I open the connected xls file in Access I get a #Num!
error for the value 000. All other values are ok (they are left aligned so I
suppose Access treats them as text.
How can I solve the problem?

Kind regards

One workaround is to open the XLS file and put a bogus record in the first
row. Put something like AAA in the second column then Access will think
everything in it is text.
