Text boxes acting strangely

I am using Word 2002 SP3 on a Windows XP machine (all latest updates
installed). While building a new template, I discovered that the text boxes
are suddenly acting strangely.

Everything works just fine for a while, text boxes and all. Then, out of
the blue, when I create a new text box, it already contains text...taken from
another existing text box, leaving it empty and unable to accept new text (it
looks like a text box but won't let you type anything into it).

This is driving me crazy, and I have a deadline. Can someone explain--and
hopefully fix--this problem?

I have this problem, and it seems that the corrupt element here is Microsoft.
So far, all my documents created in WORD 2000 (and I have hundreds),
misbehave in WORD 2003.

I have just deleted a graphic on page 4, only to have another graphic, on
page 45, disappear.

In another document, I can't insert a text box without it automatically
including the contents of another, existing text box.

As far as I can see, WORD 2003 is not fit for use. If I can't get any
improvement, I'll have to ask my IT department to 'downgrade' me to a working
installation of W2000.
