Terminal Services License Server

I have a TS license server that I want to take out of
production. It has 5 TS CAL's on it and I want to move
the license server and the CAL's to another computer. I
am under the impression we need a TS License server even
though we don't need CAL's for Win2k and XP clients.
Just in case we need the CAL's for 9x or Pocket PC
clients, I want to preserve them. How do I go about
doing this? Do I install and configure another one of my
DC's ad the TS License Server first and then deactivate
the old server? Can I simply deactivate the old server
first, remove it from the network and then activate a new
one and install the 5 CAL's. If I have both license
servers activated, can you move CAL's from one to
another? I have 2 production TS clients that I need to
keep operational. Is any of this going to affect them?
They are both Win2k or XP.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, you must have a LS, even if you only have W2K Pro and XP Pro
clients. They get their free TS CAL from the Licensing server.

You cannot really move TS CALs from one server to the other. The
recommended approach is much like you suggest:
The basic steps are:

* install the TS Licensing service on one of your Domain
Controllers.
* De-activate the old LS
* Activate your new LS
* Phone the Clearinghouse and get your licenses re-issued.
* Install the re-issued licenses
* Verify that the TS finds the new LS
* If the TS does not find the new LS because you hardcoded the
address of the old LS into the registry, remove the registry entry

Your existing clients should not be affected. Even if their TS CAL
was about to expire (you can check this in the Licensing Manager),
they would try for a whole week to renew it, so that gives you a
week to get your new LS up and running.

Is your license server on your domain controller? If my
understanding is correct you can only have license server
on your domain controller. You will need to create a
backup domain controller to move the license server on to.
