temporary turnarount to repair desktop alert for Outlook 2007

I found a turnaround to temporarily solve the problem of desktop alert
not working after SP2 in Outlook 2007.
The solution reset the Desktop Alerts, but, after some time, the
failure happens again.
To get the reset:
1)go to tools/options/preferences/email options/advanced email options
and unclick the box "Display a New Mail Desktop Alert"

2)Then close Outlook. If the Outlook icon in the notification area
takes too long time to disappear, run again Outlook and then close it
for the second time. Generally now the above icon disappears in few
seconds, showing that Outlook has been really turned off.

3)Then run again Outlook and go to the above setting of Desktop Alerts
and click the box "Display a New Mail Desktop Alert". Check if the
preview works... In case repeat the procedure.

Hi Diane, not at all .. I don't use any Apple device.. I just work
with Outlook 2007 to handle emails and RSS.
I tested the turnaround many times, upto now, it works. The Desktop
Alerts (so as the preview in the settings) works regularly for a while
.... Then back they disappear.
Of course now I am on the watch to understand what makes them fail
again.
I will report in case ...
Ciao

Hi Diane
just a new info:
the Desktop Alert working correctly yesterday at the PC shut down.
This morning, at the startup, disappeared again. Then the said "reset"
procedure to have them back.
I think the cause is due to the default setup sequence(for my PC),
where some software interfere with the desktop alert calls. Resetting
the Desktop Alert we override that sequence. Of course now I have to
find ... which software !!
Cheers

I had only two Mapilab add-ins and MS-Backap Utility.
Unistalled the Mapilab : no result !
I hope MS add-in is OK :))
