temporary internet files

I use internet explorer 6 and I notice that after browsing
a few webpages, what was in my temporary internet files
folder dissapears (gets deleted i suppose) yet i set the
amount of disk space use for the temporary internet files
folder to 300 megabytes and it never fills anywhere NEAR
that much and its very annoying. Everytime I return back
to another website I may have just viewed EVERYTHING has
to load all over again since my temporary internet files
folder doesn't seem to want to hold onto anything for very
long except for just cookies.

On the option to check for new versions of stored webpages
(General tab, Settings button), i selected Automatically,
and on the Advanced tab in the Security section for
internet explorer's options, I made sure and have seen for
myself that the "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed" check box is unchecked. Why is it
my temp internet files folder keeps clearing itself??? I
use dialup so of course if my computer were able to store
some temporary internet files, it would benefit me some at
least. Should I go into my registry and edit something
because apparantly my computer (or browser) doesn't
understand that I'm allowing it to hold up to 300
megabytes of internet files.

Please me out help
