Temporary files keep reappearing on network

Hello there. This is a Windows 2000 server in a networked
environment. One directory on the server keeps having
this problem:

The directory has about 10 word documents that several
people have access to. Every day there are ~wrd.tmp files
showing up in the directory constantly. Also, there are
temporary word docs (.doc) showing up in that same
directory as hidden. The temporary word docs can only be
hidden when Windows is configured to hide hidden files
and folders.

I can configure each user's pc to hide those hidden
temporary word docs but the same cannot be said for those
~wrd.tmp files. Both of these seem like temporary files
but I though temporary files are supposed to disappear
after a short time. These do not. Any advice is
appreciated.

Hello,

Word is a unique application in the way it handles open files. When you
open a file in Word it actually copies the file and then opens the temp
file. It also locks the existing file. You make your changes to the temp
file and then when you save it overwrites the existing file. So whenever
you are working with word files, you will have a tmp file for every open
file. This is by design.
