Template

I am trying to create a powerpoint template in Powerpoint 2000. I thought I
knew what to do . . . but have going in circles now for over an hour.

I have one slide created. This slide is the slide I want to base my entire
slide show on. I want all the graphics and text on this slide to appear on
every slide. I go to File, Save, As, click "Save by Type" and select
"Design Template."

I believe the program is saving the file to a hidden folder, i.e. documents
and settings\
application data\microsoft\templates.

When I open Powerpoint to use the template and click File, New, it is listed
under the General Tab. When I open the template, it is appears. However,
when I go to Insert New Slide, the slide I am inserting is blank and isn't
based on the template.

Help. Thank you.

Paul,
You are very close to the solution. You need to do is move the formatting
from the slide in your template to the Master Slide in your template. To see
the Master, do View--> Master--> Slide Master. Once you have put the
formatting onto the master, new slides will pick up that formatting.

When you insert the graphics and text, did you do it in the slide master
(Click View > Master > Slide Master)? You will need to insert in slide
master, then save as a template.
