Template file not opening as a doc file for a user-why?

I have a user that when she double-clicks on a .dot file it opens as a .dot
file---it does not open as a document file. The same file for me opens a
document file. We tried opening a number of .dot files and they all open as
the template file. Is there a setting that would cause this behavior?

The file associations on her computer/profile are not correct. Right-click
on a filename in Windows Explorer. The default (bold) action for .doc files
should be Open; for .dot files it should be New. If Open is in bold on the
shortcut menu for .dot files, then this is the problem. You can try
reregistering Word (see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm); if this doesn't
work, you'll have to edit the file type in Folder Options.

I checked her defaults for the types of files and they are correct. We have
realized that this only happens when she tries to open a template from within
StarTeam tool. Have you run across this before? Since I use the same tool and
it doesn't happen to me, it still seems like it would be a setting somewhere.
Thanks for the help.

I am not familiar with StarTeam, but it sounds like you'll need to talk to
the tech support for that product.
