Temp Internet files

I have my "Tools/Internet Options/ set to delete all temp internet files when
I close the browser, but when I look in the temp internet file folder they
are still there. Also, I have a folder named "Temporary Internet Files" in
my "local settings" folder and then I also have a file just named "Temp", but
there is a second folder named "Temporary Internet Files" inside the "Temp"
folder.

I ran the free "Clean up Scan" in the Windows Safety Center and it showed a
bunch of "Temporary Internet Files" even after I deleted all of the files in
the "Temporary INternet Files" folder in the "Local Settings" folder. This
is all very confusing.

This is a known issue. My advice is to do as i do and download an freeware
application called CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com) Set it to run when the pc
starts. it will clean temporary internet files, history, cookies, delete the
recycle bin, clear index.dat file, clear you recently used internet sites
and a host of other things.
What i will say is that if you use online banking you might like to tell
CCleaner to save the cookies rather than deleting them otherwise you might
have problems with the online banking system, but other than that, the
software works like a dream.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | Click Apply | Click OK. Entirely up to you, but if
you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

Also: Start IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Days to keep
pages in history: 0 | Apply | OK

Thanks John: I give this a try. I want to keep my computer running well
etc. but it seems like everytime I use some type of scan etc. that is
supposed to improve it's performance, it creates more problems than it
solves. I recently used the Live Safety center cleanup and now I'm having
all kinds of problems. I'll let you know what this does.
