Temp IE cookies

I have searched and looked for cookies on the MS forum but, although there
were plenty, I couldn't find exactly what I wanted to know.
I have to be careful in what I do as I cannot get any local Computer help.
I need to know what is the difference and consequence of, in the Internet
Properties box at Temporary Internet Files, Deleting cookies and Deleting
Files.
I have my History set to clear every 20 days. Should this be more or less
than 20?

Hi,
Deleting the Temporary Internet Files is harmless and it is a good practice
to clear them occasionally- perhaps every day or two. It is generally
recommended that the TIF folder be kept below about 50-100 MB. On a slow
internet connection (dial-up) the files stored in the TIF folder can reduce
download/display times for frequently visited pages.

Cookies are necessary at some sites and are essentially harmless. Some users
don't like tracking cookies and delete them or block them, using IE's
privacy options or a third-party program.

History: 20 days is a good compromise. Attempts to keep history for too long
(200-300 days) can increase the probability of corruption in the History
folder.

Hope this helps,
Don

It is a personal thing-
I like to clear the 'lot' at the end of the day, along with both main 'temp'
folders and the dustbin - just before AV, antispyware are run. It is good
house-keeping.

In the Internet Properties box under Temporary Internet files there are 3 tabs;
Delete Cookies tab, Delete Files tab and a Settings tab.
In my previous post I asked what is the difference of Deleting cookies or
Deleting Files.
You replied that " Deleting the Temporary Internet Files is harmless"
Does this mean that both the cookies and the files should both be deleted or
just delete the cookies?

In the Settings box under 'Check for newer versions of stored pages', of the
4 options I have only the Automatic option enabled.
Is this OK?
I set history at 50MB

Hi,
Sorry, I've been busy and lost track of this thread :-o

Regarding "Check for newer versions of stored pages"... Automatic should
work OK. If pages don't refresh, try another setting.

Cookies are generally useful- they allow websites to remember you and your
preferences. I rarely delete all cookies. I do block a few tracking cookies.
You will have to decide how restrictive your cookie settings should be.
