Temp files question

Dr Teeth

Something is writing files to my root folder on startup. They are of
the format SQMDATA00.SQM and SQMNOOPT00.SQM. One of each gets written
each time the PC is booted.

I have checked the SQM extension and did not find anything of use. PC
is spyware/adware free and has been checked with hijackthis.

Is there a util that I can use to see what is writing these files?

TIA.

It's Windows Live Messenger. As far as I can tell they only appear when you
use the new File Sharing thing.

Both files belong to MSN Messenger or possibly Windows Live Messenger.
Does that ring any bells?

I have that on three PCs, file sharing disabled on all. The SQMs
appear on two PCs.

The only common factor is that on the two PCs with SQM-itis, is that
there is no tools > options > sharing folders.

I remember getting these files when I first started using the beta, but I
don't seem to have them now, and I have that Sharing Folders thing actually
switched on.

A quick search on Google says that they may, or may not, have something to
do with the 'Service Quality Monitor' option for reporting back to MS. That
Quality Improvement option. But I actually have that turned (to get rid of
the nag) and I don't have the files.

BTW, I get rid of the adverts and the chat window toolbars and the tabs to
make it look a lot better. Use the A-Patch to get rid of all the crap.

I don't have the SQM set to on. This topic is being discussed in the
Win Messenger NG where others' experiences are similar.

I use Clean Messenger as my crap eliminator.
