Temp files appearing on the recently used file list

we've just upgraded to Office-XP and now notice that spreadsheets launched from e-mail etc that are just opened and not saved are then appearing in the recently used file list at the bottom of the file menu. Is this a bug or a new MS 'feature'

Is there a way of stopping this, it does not appear to happen on Word and didnit happen on Office-2k

Thanks in advance

Hi Julie
sounds like your email client stores the file in your temp file end
Excel opens it from there. So from Excel's point of view it's o.k. that
it appears in the most recent file list :)

Thanks Frank

But why if I exit from excel without saving the file is is appearing in the list at all? It didn't with Office-2K and it doesn't with Word-XP, you only get saved files appearing which is what we want to happen in Excel

Thanks Julie

My memory is bad. But I thought that xl97 didn't add to the MRU list if the
file was opened by any other method than File|open. I thought xl2k changed this
behavior--but maybe it was xl2002.

So double clicking on a workbook in windows explorer xl2002 will add it to the
MRU list. Same kind of thing must be happening when you open an email.

My bet is that MS thought it was an enhancement--and for lots of people it is!

I don't know away of changing this behavior.

(and xl and word are still separate programs, but they get closer in
Userinterface with each new release.)
