Telnet

I am running W2K Server, and after starting the telnet server, and
then connecting to the server from another workstation, I get the
login screen and password prompt, but after entering user and
password, the machine then hangs, but if I deliberately enter a wrong
user and password, the machine refuses the connection......I have
tried configuring server to another port, same problem, I have admin
rights, and am able to connect to other W2K servers running telnet
server ok, but not this particular one.......any advice would be
helpful thank you....mick palmer.

Sounds like port blocking activity... have you tried
waiting to see if the machine recovers after hanging?

No, the computer stays the same....i forgot to mention that previously
i had been experimenting with netcat, setting up nc as server and
client.....but if it is a port promlem, how do i rectify it?.....i had
already disabled the nic, removed tcp, and then reinstalled all....any
more clues please.....thanks.

To rectify the above matter, i deleted in the users properties, from
the profile tab, under Home folder/Local path all pointers to the
'Home directories'.......so therefore after logging-on again, instead
of the C:\users\bob directory, a user would just be at the C:\
prompt.....question is now, why is this happening....what part of the
system needs to be rectified in order to use the users home folder as
there local path?.....any clues please would be
appreciated......cheers
