telnet dosbox operation

Hello,

I am a longtime NT/XP user new to the ways of Vista.
Am running a GT701-WG wireless modem from Qwest.
Under XP I could login to the modem itself using telnet.
(Meaning, navigate the tree structure, issue commands.)
Under Vista, I turned on the Telnet client and connect okay.
However, the dosbox (?) does not allow me to type any commands.
(Meaning, no navigation, commands, display, etc., just a
blinking cursor.) So its not a focus issue.
Acts the same way with firewall turned off, not a firewall issue.
Same behavior regardless if I use DOS or START or MS Telnet.
Same behavior also using the hyperterm software product.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

As a followup, see MS KB275544, which describes a similar scenario
under ME when running a(n) Hewlett-Packard multimedia keyboard.
In my situation, the platform is a Compaq Presario SR5130NX, and
the DOSBOX works until the connection is made to the DSL modem,
at which point (after signing on) the DOSBOX makes it look like you
are signed in to the modem, but nothing further can be typed or even
displayed in the DOSBOX. Since neither the driver or emulation mode
could be bad if the signon steps worked okay, this points to more of
a protocol problem within Vista itself.
