Tech 24 - WARNING!

A few weeks ago I had a frustrating problem that I needed to solve
right away, so I went to www.tech24.com. I signed up and gave my
credit card number. After waiting about 15 minutes, a Tech24 person
came online and said they were too busy to help me and that I should
come back in a couple of hours. In the next hour I solved the problem
myself, so I went about trying to get my money refunded. I wrote
several emails to Tech24 - no response! I wrote a snail mail letter to
Tech24 - no response! They did not answer any of my attempts to
communicate with them, and they did not refund my money. Fortunately,
American Express did refund the money to save the expense of an
investigation.

I don't know whether Tech24 offers useful advice, but I do know that
they are not an honest company. If you have to deal with them, make
sure you have a good credit card company that will refund your money,
if necessary.

Yep, that's why you use Credit Cards. They can act as an arbitrator. I hope you put any
charge that you may have incurred in dispute with the CC company.

Sorry for your misfortune and thanks for the heads up, King O'.

My advice; NEVER use a credit card or bank account number online, EVER!!
Even if it says it's a secure site that does NOT rule out the
possibility of a dishonest employee on the other end stealing from you.

The same could happen at a gas station. You give the credit card to the attendant and he
swipes the card and captures the information on the magnetic stripe. He can then use that
info to create a new clone of the card.

You can get mugged on the street, too, and you can likely physically
identify the criminal. Online it's just a *little* bit more difficult to
ID the bast@rd(s).

All I'm saying is be very careful. If you do shop online and supply bank
info you'd better check your account status on a daily basis. I know way
too many people who have been victims of ID theft from online shopping
and too many finacial institutions all too willing to pay out money you
don't even have in your account and then try to whack you for it all
later on, plus fees and charges. Just be careful. Don't trust "secure
sites" blindly.

I agree to an extent, but I disagree when the online accounts are reputable, well established and tenured interent businesses. I do almost all my credit card and banking activity online, and I save big bucks doing so, and don't have to get mail delivered.

One solution is to get a MasterCard or Visa from MBNA. They have a
downloadable program that creates a fake credit card # and 3 digit sec
#. It
also allows you to limit the amount and the time the seller can submit
the charge. The fake # will be re-directed to you real account when it
reaches MBNA. I really feel safe purchasing online this
way...........Regards. Dingo

It's a nasty company. They have also ripped off many webmasters who they
promised advertising fees to but never paid. Kirkland, aka the owner,
should be blackballed.

Tech24 claims to be a Microsoft certified partner. Maybe you could send a
complaint to the MS department that provides this certification. Who
knows, maybe tech24 will feel the wrath of Microsoft. ;->

Didn't you have to use a checking account number or Credit Card Number
for your earthlink account?

This is why I don't have some of the very cheap isp. Credit Card or
bank account is required. I don't do auto payments either.

No, I send a money order every month. I don't even have a bank account
anymore. They don't like it and charge me a little more.
