tcp/ip problem...i'm stumped!

--STORY--: i just switched my physical network setup. Before my pc was setup
multi-homed ( 1 to cable modem and 1 to rest of LAN) with ICS sharing
internet for everyone. I just installed a router and have all pcs talking to
it via a hub. On my PC, I disabled one of the cards, disabled ICS and
reconfigured the single working nic for DHCP. --SYMPTOMS--: now i can't ping
my own ip address. I CAN ping the gateway (router), all other pcs AND the
loopback address. I can even connect to the internet. But everyone else
cannot ping me at all. I believe that there some old config. info. that
isn't being updated.

my problem is with tcp/ip. I don't see how installing a netware protocol
will correct this. That would be a limited bypass. You cannot reinstall
tcp/ip in windows xp by microsoft's design. I need some way of correcting
the tcp/ip stack.

You're right, Rich -- installing IPX/SPX can't help with a TCP/IP
problem.

Make sure that XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall is disabled
on the LAN connection. Un-install any firewall programs (ZoneAlarm,
Norton Internet Security, etc) while troubleshooting.

Here's a procedure that can un-install and re-install TCP/IP, courtesy
of Ken Wickes:

1. Backup and delete the following registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock2

2. Reboot

3. Open the network connections folder, right click your network
connection, and click Properties.

4. Click Install | Protocol | Add.

5. Click "Have Disk...", type "\windows\inf" in the box, and click
OK.

6. Click "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)", then click OK.

7. Reboot.
