Taskbar/Taskpane

Somehow I have seperated the taskbar and taskpane next to the start button.
There are now two lines at the bottom of the screen which I cannot restore
to a single line. Whatever I try I cannot seem to get the two to run side by
side.
Can anybody point me in the right direction ?

First, unlock the Taskbar (right-click on Taskbar, uncheck
"Lock the Taskbar")

Click and drag the separator bar over to the right of the Taskbar
(It's the separator that looks like four dots and then three dots
running side by side vertically). It seems to allow you to create a
double-decker effect with the Taskbar. Once you drag the lower one to
the right of the Taskbar, it allows you to resize the Taskbar.

This question and answer "almost" solves my problem. I still have 3
separators on the task bar. I finally got the "empty" one to the left, but it
takes up a space about 1 1/2 inches. I can't move it any further to the
right. I went to the website, but I am not sure which one to download to
repair this.

It is frustrating, because I can't figure out why this additional separator
is there. Please point me in the right direction.
