Taskbar size problem

Hello. I hope someone can help troubleshoot the taskbar issue that recently
came up with my XP Home Ed., IE6 SP2;
While using IE one day I must have 'resized' the taskbar with my cursor
while maximizing/minimizing web pages & it essentially doubled in height
(like one taskbar stacked on another).
Now the only way I can keep a 'single' taskbar on the screen is by turning
'quick launch' off - if I turn it on another taskbar appears below the first
one which is empty unless I have webpages open. I cannot resize the
'double-taskbar' to a single one with my mouse cursor although it will let
me shrink it to below the viewable screen area and I can move it to another
part of rhe desktop.
Your thoughts are appreciated, thank you.

make sure it is unlocked. Right click on the taskbar and make sure there is
no check next to "Lock the Taskbar" Then resize it

Thanks Frank, I did try some toolbar fixes with no luck. I DID decide
to try a system restore point (to a few days ago) and the taskbar
seems to be behaving normally now. (Still not sure what caused
the problem though).
Thanks for your response.
