Taskbar problems after another tinker toy upgrade - Firefox.

My Computer was working fine before...
I upgraded to latest Firefox ver 3.04
This had the effect of trashing my bookmarks.
And now I notice that open applications are not shown in the XP taskbar.

It is not possible to roll back Firefox to a previous version, and doing an
XP System Restore to yesterday does not resolve these problems.

What can I do to restore the open applications notifications to the task
bar?
