Taskbar problem

Hi,

For reasons unknown to me, my taskbar suddenly became
enlarged. The icons in the tray are stretched out to the
point of nonrecognition. Furthermore, in addition to the
display of the time, the day of the week is displayed. I
have already tried unlocking my taskbar to make the
taskbar smaller, but it seems to be at its smallest. Does
anyone know what I can do to get rid of this annoying
problem?

Thank you very much,
Jeannie

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
and select a Restore Point that was created prior to the time the problem
became known.

If I've installed a number of programs and hardware
devices in the meantime and I select a restore point that
is prior to these installs, would I have to install these
programs and devices again?

Suggestions:
-- Is there a toolbar on the taskbar? If yes, right click within it's
boundarys. Check that View> Small Icons is selected.

-- Remove any presently displayed toolbars from taskbar and then try
resizing it.

-- Check Display> Settings> Advanced. Are Fonts set to "Normal [96dpi]"?

-- Also in Display but under Appearance, check the Scheme being used.
May want to try reapplying your desired "theme" and/or "scheme" to
re-establish normal dimensions for various elements within the GUI.
NOTE: Changing value of Icon Spacing [Vertical] can cause the taskbar to
"grow" in height.

-- Check Control Panel> Accessibility Options. Turn off anything that
would enable "large" display (Magnifier, for example).

PS in regards to another question you asked in this thread: Yes, you
would have to reinstall programs that were installed after the date/time
of any particular restore point. If you are in the habit of storing
important items on the desktop (documents, for example), you could lose
those too.

Thank you all for your help. By resetting my scheme to
the basic one for Windows XP, the problem solved itself!
