The below tweak was copied from TweakXP.Com. I would
like to know if anyone has used it and found it to work:

Some times When you check your TasKbar properties or when
you hide or unhide icons you can see old icons from
Uninstalled or old programs yuo dont have anymore.

This Tweak will help you how to get rid of this problem

How To clear the Past Items or Icons list in the TaskBar,

Hello Colin,

TweakXP.Com should have stated that the information was
copied from this Microsoft Knowledge Base Article:-

"How to Clear Past Items from the Notification Area"
from http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283084

For an automated tweak, which was coded by
MVP Doug Knox and MVP Kelly Theriot,
I suggest you visit MS-MVP Kelly's website at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Note the instructions at the top of the page,
then scroll down to line 53,
(Remove Past Items From the Notification Area)

Right-click the hyperlink, then click | Save Target As |
to download the file, "xp_pastitems.vbs",
then double-click the file and follow the prompts.

Thank you Jan. I went to the below Microsoft link and I
would like to try their method. I'm sure Kelly's
automated tweak would work and I have used them in the
past buttttttt I don't learn much when I use them. A
coupla questions if you please:
1. It says "delete the IconStreams and PastIconsStream
values". Is it safe to say I can right click on the key
and select modify and delete all the 'value data' in the
pop-up window or do they mean to delete the entire key?
2. Will a System Restore point work to bail me out if I
botch it up?

Hi Colin,

Once there, right click each entry and delete. The changes won't show until
you end the process on Explorer.exe via Task Manager and re-run. Also from
doing the such, all of the Notification Area Icons will be listed for up to
an hour or so.
