Taskbar fails to "hide"

I normally have the "autohide" option set for the taskbar. Occasionally,
even with that option set, the taskbar fails to hide. Checking & unchecking
(and APPLYing) all options doesn't help - it just doesn't want to hide. I
didn't find anything on the subject in the Knowledge Base.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Yes honey,
That's my problem exactly now, but that's not a problem. This feature is
normal.
So what is the autohide function utility?
Its to autohide inactive Icons on the taskbar but when there are much Icons,
or if you have Active Icons such as Internet Statue(two monitor icons) or
Zone Alarm Icons which constantly blink, it will not autohide the rest of
the Icons.
Solution: Unload active Icons if you want to autohide the rest.
Long term Solution: Tweak your taskbar settings, I'm searching how to do it,
the answer won't be long.

On your Hide Icons page, click Custom, right click each item and select
always hide.

Here is your answer.
To always autohide active icons/inactive icons, rightclick your taskbar,
click on properties, click on personalize/parameters near autohide inactive
icons, select a behavior for each icons(the drop down list) and with your
arrow keys, select the option always hide for all Icons you wish to autohide
and it should work.

It's not the Icons that aren't "hiding" properly - it's the whole taskbar.
The taskbar, in its entirety, is supposed to hide when the cursor is away
from the edge of the screen where the bar is supposed to be, and appear when
the cursor goes off that same edge. It sometimes gets recalcitrant and
decides to hang around permanently.

I know you said that checking all options didn't help, but are you sure the
option to "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" is not part of the
varying behavior?

Hi, Pascal.

To see what the OP is asking about, right-click Start, then Properties. On
the Taskbar tab is an option to Autohide the Taskbar. This is not the same
thing as hiding icons in the Notification Area (which most of us still call
the System Tray or SysTray) near the clock.

When we say "Taskbar", sometimes we mean the whole strip, including the
Start button and the clock; other times we mean just the part between the
Quick Launch toolbar and the SysTray, where we see icons for programs that
are running. Autohide the Taskbar hides the whole thing - until the mouse
cursor approaches that edge of the screen.

Yes, I thought it was the notification area.

This may be due to system hang, when too much applications are open(windows
uses Ram to animate the taskbar hiding and may be out of it),
Will it hide after a few minutes?
