taskbar colour in windows xp

Some time ago I upgraded from Win98 to XP Pro. All well until last week when
the config file came up as corrupted, with no obvious cause.

This was solved by running XP directly from the CD, which brought back
everything as OK (and whilst the going was good I firstly backed up the files
that mattered!). I then ran the shareware package Registry Mechanic which
threw up and repaired four problems.

Then XP started up by itself, except that the taskbar is now grey with solid
vertical bars (ie just like Win98), even though the taskbar properties window
clearly shows the XP style blue. The font was also wrong, but has since
corrected itself.

Thus:
1. Can I get this back to blue? Not a big deal, but it would be nice.
2. On this limited information, is there any possibility of an error that
really matters still lurking somewhere?

Had this happen to me a while ago too. I found that that doing a system
restore temporarily fixed things. Ended up doing a complete reinstall in
the end, no problems since. No idea what caused it.

OK - thanks for that.

Have since discovered that an added font had disappeared - but I still had
the original source file and it has gone back in OK.

Looks like I run with it and see what happens - and keep backing up like mad!
