taskbar button disappear

After I minimize an application which doesn't have a
button showing in the taskbar, then I have to open the
task manager and do a "switch to" in order to get back to
the application.

How can I get back those taskbar buttons? It's so
inconvenient if i have to open task manager and do
a "switch to" operation.

See here for more information how to repair the Taskbar:

Question: The problem is that when the Quick Launch toolbar is selected to
display on the Taskbar, none of the icons for the open windows are visible
in the Taskbar.

Solution:
http://groups.google.co.in/groups?hl=en&lr=&[email protected]

Note that you'll lose all the custom toolbars that you've added to the
Taskbar.

Clique Iniciar, Executar, digite regedit e dê Enter. Navegue até
KEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ ExeFile .

I tried this Google link, but two of the keys mentioned aren't there, and
deleting the one that is has no effect. The minimized buttons on the taskbar
are there when explorer starts now, and I can right click to add the
quicklaunch toolbar, then reposition them, but when I try to Lock the
Taskbar, the quicklaunch icons dissapear. Attempting to bring them back gets
rid of the minimized buttons again, and I'm back where I started.

Thanks alot for the link, but oddly enough, my taskbar seems to have fixed
itself overnight. It's locked, and everything is the way it should be, and I
didn't do a thing... After 8 restarts and countless failed repair attempts,
a full night's rest seems to have fixed things. o.o

Very likely you are infected with malware.

In the future, please ask Vista questions in a Vista newsgroup, not
here in an XP one. You are more likely to get the help you need when
you ask in the right place.
