task scheduler

i set the task scheduler to run a task every 30 minutes. After the task runs
one time - the task scheduler re-sets itself to run again in 4 hours not 30
minutes. Is there a way I can solve this? Thanks

Also when you say you have scheduled it to run every 30 minutes, are you
refering to the task repeating itself (via the Schedule tab > Advanced ...
in the scheduled task properties in Task Scheduler), with the main task
being scheduled every 4 hours?

More detail is required for a better response.

Yes, I am wanting to schedule symantec Net detect every 30 minutes. I am
using a modem and I use the computer at various times of the day. I want to
check symantec Net detect every time I go online. Not when I log on or when
the computer starts up. I am observing that most people do not like Norton. I
didn't realize that they have as bad a reputation as I am learning. However,
I have purchased the 2005 version and would like to use it. Thanks for your
interest.

The following document describes how Symantec's NetDetect is SUPPOSED to
work.

http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...ecurity&ver=2005&src=sg&pcode=nis&svy=&csm=no

NetDetect is a program which modifies it's own schedule when it runs. Until
September 2004, it worked the way described. Then they introduced a bug (in
my opinion). After a successful update, it used to reset the schedule to
"Every 5 minutes starting in 4 hours time". When you first install
LiveUpdate, that's the initial schedule. However, as soon as LU runs, the
schedule is now reset to "Every 4 hours". So, the bug is in NetDetect.

As you have discovered, that's NOT a good schedule for dial-up users (or for
broadband users who "Block Traffic" when not using the Internet).

Again in my opinion, Symantec is dumb, because:

a) They created a bug.
b) Their Indian "Support Centre" blocks genuine bug reports from users from
being forwarded to the developers. I tried 3 times to get the message
through.
c) They have not even noticed the drop-off in network traffic to their
Liveupdate servers from the millions of users around the world on dial-up
who rely on Automatic LiveUpdate.
d) They are exposing all those users to any new virus.

All you can do is run LiveUpdate manually every time you connect to the
Internet.
