Task Scheduler service fails to start

I am having trouble with a Win 2k Pro machine. The task scheduler service
will not start. It comes back with an error saying invalid parameter (I am
not at customer site, so I dont have the exact message with me now).

The service was previously working and had several reoccurring tasks. There
have been no apparent changes in the period from when it was working to the
time it started failing.

I have deleted all tasks, the service still does not start.

The machine was provided by my customer and has been 'hardened'. By this I
mean they have changed Windows from its default directory and locked out or
hidden many applications that they dont want the user to have. I do have a
local admin account on the machine.

The machine is not on a domain. The network is Novell, and the machine is
running the Novell provided client software.

Make sure the 'Task Scheduler' service is set to start using the local
system account credentials and 'Allow service to interact with desktop' is
checked.

Done. If the service is set to anything but local system, you receive an
error message. Tried it both with the check box and without. Compared all
settings to another Win2k pro box, they are identical.

The accounts database may be corrupt. Try deleting all tasks then after
restart add them back in.
