Task Scheduler Error - going crazy

Charlie

I am trying to schedule a task and continue to get the following message.
"The new task has been created but may not start because the account
information could not be set. Specific error: 0x80070057. The parameter is
incorrect." The task never runs and the status indicates "it cannot start".
All scheduled tasks create the same error. When trying to view the
properties of the scheduled task I get the message: "General page
initialization failed. The specific error is x080070057. The parameter in
incorrect."

I have checked Microsoft Knowledge base and searched Google with no results.
I am running Windows XP Professional (SP1 clean install) and logged in with
the administrative group. I am running on a home network and not attached to
a Domain Server. I am not trying to schedule a task without a password and I
have tried to set up and run under another account with administrative
rights with no success.

Can anyone offer a suggestion?? This is driving me crazy.

Hi

Have you entered the correct password? Without a wrong password you will get the "it cannot start" error message.

I'm having exactly the same problem. The help file says that you
don't need a password and I'm running the tasks from my Administrator
account.

The help file is misleading you. To run scheduled tasks you must be
logged in to an account that has a password. In Pro you can remove that
restriction by running Control Panel - Admin Tools - Local Security
Policy and in Local Policies - Security Options Double clicking 'Limit
local account use of blank passwords.. . ' and set as Disabled

In Home that control module is not available - Kelly has a fix at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 67, left, 'Run Scheduled tasks without PW - Home'

Hi Charlie,

A similar error drove me crazy sometime back. After some googling, the
workaround appeared to be to stop using the task scheduler, then start the
scheduler, wait for 15 minutes and then start scheduling jobs. My error
revolved around scheduling too many jobs. More on that if you care to
look up the KB article 264522.

On the same note, would an MVP or *anyone* care to explain why the address
bar sporadically refuses to accept any user entered string while a large
number of tasks are being scheduled via a batch file? (OS: XP Professional,
SP1)

TIA,
Regards,
Devarshi.
