Task Manager won't stay open!

I'm about to go crazy because I cannot get my task manager to stay open. No matter what method I use to open it (i.e. right click on taskbar, control-alt-delete, from the Help program), it will flash up for a second and then disappear. The little green icon that represents it will be on the taskbar (one for every time I try to open it), but as soon as I put my cursor on it, it will instantly disappear. This has been going on for quite awhile, and I have just had it! Any suggestions?? I can't find anything in the Help program, and I'm at my wit's end.

Hi Shannon,

I'm about to go crazy because I cannot get my task manager to stay open. No matter what method I use to open it (i.e. right click on taskbar, control-alt-delete, from the Help program), it will flash up for a second and then disappear. The little green icon that represents it will be on the taskbar (one for every time I try to open it), but as soon as I put my cursor on it, it will instantly disappear. This has been going on for quite awhile, and I have just had it! Any suggestions?? I can't find anything in the Help program, and I'm at my wit's end.

This is behavior typical of several viruses.
Perform an online scan at any of these sites:
Trend Micro HouseCall:

Panda Active Scan:

RAV AntiVirus Online Virus Scan

BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan

You can go to this page to look for substitutes meanwhile:

Good luck

Thank you Roger! I ran the first virus scanner you suggested and it found a "worm" problem right away. My task manager works now, finally! I'm a little steamed, though, because I've been running "Stinger" periodically to check for viruses and it hasn't found one since last year. Well, at least now I have some better resources! Thank you!

Stinger is a stand alone program made to remove a few common viruses of the
day.
Stinger is not meant to replace antivirus software

you can download some free AV software or buy one of the commercial
packages.

No matter what you do remember AV software relies on definitions to detect
and remove viruses so always update whenever you go on line!
