Task Manager-Too Long

When I select the ctrl+Alt+del buttons, I have to hold the buttons for
approximately 15 seconds for the Task Manager screen to pop up. This is way
too long.

What brings this up, may be related to when I start my Windows Internet
Explorer, it does not start all the time when I double-click on it. it does
nothing, then when I use the combo, eventually the Task manager comes up and
then Windows Internet Explorer suddenly pops up and shows in the Task Manager
as running. Once I close the task manager then I can use Internet Explorer. I
have upgraded from IE 6 to IE 7. I had the problem with IE6 too. Any
suggestions. I have checked all the post and none of them apply. Thanks for
your help

The Del key is a repeat key. You should depress the Ctrl and Alt keys,
peck the Del key and release, then release Ctrl/Alt.

Maybe you're being impatient. Watch the hd light and you'll see that IE
is loading. Pressing Ctrl/Alt-Del, and waiting 15 seconds, is probably
slowing the opening of IE, or filling your time while IE loads anyway.

What else is running on the system? If too many other applications,
usually shown in the notification area of the taskbar, next to the time,
they could be contributing to a slow opening of IE.

Create a shortcut to %windir%\system32\taskmgr.exe or right click the
free taskbar and run the task manager from there. Scan your system for
malware in addition.

Once in Task Manager, Open Process Tab and click on CPU Column head to sort
high to low. See what is using the system the most?

SVCHOST.EXE?

Why should I do this. Note that I'm *not* the OP!
